From "Karakol to Almaty"
One of the most beautiful and popular routes from Karakol to Almaty city, we will drive along the Shekol Way to the picturesque valley of Karkyr with many legends. We will visit the mountain lakes of Kazakhstan and of course the mysterious desert canyon Charyn, where you can enjoy the untouched nature.
After breakfast we drive towards the border to the Karkyr Valley, a summer pasture with many legends and stories. On the way we visit the open historical complex of San Tash, where you can see the stones of Tamerlane. We reach the border, cross it and drive to the village of Saty. We will be on the road almost all the rest of the day, taking into account the border crossing (approximate time of border crossing 2-6 hours).
After breakfast we will be picked up by high cross-country vehicles and driven to the small lakes of Kaindy. The main feature of the place is the flooded forest. Withered trunks of spruce trees rise above the surface of the lake like giant poles or masts of sailing ships. After walking around and photographing the beauty, we return to the guesthouse for lunch. After that we will hit the road and drive to the Kola Lakes. This system of reservoirs is a blue necklace, the pearl of the "Kazakh Alps". Half an hour and we are at the Lower Kolsai Lake! We will walk along the lake, take a boat ride if we wish. We will spend the night in the same place where we spent the night before.
We have breakfast and hit the road. Today we will see another wonder of Kazakhstan, the beauty and grandeur of which is breathtaking - the Charyn Canyon. Considering the size and geological features of the canyon, it is often called the "little brother" of one of the largest canyons in the world - the American Grand Canyon. It is a vast area along the river Charyn (Sharyn) of 154 km, and the height of steep mountains reaches 150-300 meters. Sharyn (Kazakh name of the canyon) is composed of sedimentary rocks, which are about 12 million years old. We will see the relict Sogdian ash tree, which is preserved only here, in the lower reaches of the Sharyn River and in the canyon of its tributary Temirlik. On the way we will stop at observation platforms with a view of the Chyorny Gorge - a branch of the Charyn Gorge, where the river has carved its way through rocks and boulders. The walls of the canyon are black and contrast with the turquoise color of the mountain stream flowing along the bottom. After a walk through the canyon, we drive to Almaty (the former capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan), where our fascinating drive ends. The total driving time is about 5 hours (2 hours to the canyon, 3 hours to the hotel in Almaty).
